Tune in to New York's WQXR Radio (96.3 FM) on Monday evenings in October and hear some of Young Concert Artists' extraordinary finds.These broadcasts are hosted by YCA alumna pianist Ruth Laredo.

Clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein Wins Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition
23-year-old clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein has just won the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition in Odense, Denmark. Mr. Fiterstein was also awarded two special prizes, for the Best Interpretation of a Danish Work and for the Best Performance with the Odense Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Fiterstein received a cash prize and concert engagements, including a performance as soloist with the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in September.In January, 2001, Alexander Fiterstein won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. As a result, he will debut at venues throughout the U.S. during the 2001-2002 season, including debuts in New York at the 92nd Street Y, in Washington, DC at the Kennedy Center, and in Boston at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Tenor Marius Brenciu wins Cardiff Singer of the World Competition
On June 16, 2001 in Cardiff, Wales, Romanian tenor Marius Brenciu won the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, as well as the special Song Prize. He joins a list of past winners which includes Karita Mattila, Bryn Terfel and Dmitri Hvorostovky.In January, 2001, Marius Brenciu won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. As a result he will debut at venues throughout the U.S. during the 2001-2002 season, including his New York debut in the Young Concert Artists Series on April 16, 2002 at the 92nd Street Y, sponsored by The Walker Fund Debut Prize. Among his other honors are Second Prize in Belgium's 2000 Queen Elisabeth Competition and First Prizes at Pamplona's Julián Gayarre International Vocal Competition and at Bucharest's George Enescu International Competition.
Mr. Brenciu's engagements this summer include the Verdi Requiem under the baton of Mstislav Rostropovich at the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland and under the baton of Krzysztof Penderecki in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and a performance at the opening concert of the George Enescu International Festival in Bucharest as soloist with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, at the invitation of Riccardo Muti. Marius Brenciu currently resides in his native Bucharest, where he is a principal singer with the Romanian National Opera.
Composer Kevin Puts just awarded two prestigious honors: Rome Prize and Guggenheim Fellowship
Twenty-nine-year-old American composer Kevin Puts has been awarded the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome: a cash award and the opportunity to live and study at the American Academy in Rome. Mr. Puts was also just announced as a Guggenheim Fellow, which brings him a grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He is one of very few to have received both the Rome Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship in the same year.In addition to these most recent honors, Mr. Puts has been recognized as one of the most promising young composers in the U.S. as winner of the 1999 Barlow International Competition, which commissions a work to be premiered by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Symphony in 2002, and as receipient of a commission from the Institute for American Music, for a work to be premiered by the Boston Pops conducted by Keith Lockhart on June 19 and 20, 2001.

Timothy Fain 24-year-old American Violinist Awarded Avery Fisher Career Grant
On Tuesday, March 27, violinist Timothy Fain was announced as recipient of a 2001 Avery Fisher Career Grant. To read more about Timothy Fain, see his photograph, and hear an audio clip, click here.Numerous other artists from Young Concert Artists have been awarded Avery Fisher Career Grants, including violinists Chee-Yun, Ani Kavafian and Ida Kavafian, violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama, cellist Carter Brey, and pianists Jeremy Denk, Eduardus Halim, Adam Neiman, Anne-Marie McDermott, Ursula Oppens and Christopher O'Riley.
The Avery Fisher Prize has been awarded to three musicians who began their careers with Young Concert Artists: pianists Emanuel Ax, Richard Goode and Murray Perahia.

Young Concert Artists Renews Orchestra Partners Project Offering YCA soloists at a special $1,000 Honorarium
Orchestras who have not presented a YCA artist during 2000-2001 or 2001-2002:
May engage a YCA soloist for 2002-2003 for the Honorarium of $1,000 plus hotel, and must also agree to engage a second YCA artist, under the same terms, during 2003-2004 or 2004-2005.Orchestras who have already engaged a YCA artist during 2000-2001 or 2001-2002:
May engage a YCA soloist for 2002-2003 for the Honorarium of $1,000 plus hotel.Contracts must be full-executed by March 31, 2002
