SASHA COOKE WINS MARIAN ANDERSON AWARD
Mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke has been chosen as the recipient of the 2009-2010 Marian Anderson Award of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. With the award of $15,000, courtesy of the Fairfield County Community Foundation, comes the opportunity to perform in recital on Monday, October 4, 2010 in the Terrace Theater at the Kennedy Center. Past recipients include such renowned singers as Sylvia McNair, Denyce Graves, Philip Zawisza, Nancy Maultsby, Patricia Racette, Michelle de Young, Nathan Gunn, Marguerite Krull, Eric Owens, and Indira Mahajan. Sasha Cooke has starred at the Metropolitan Opera in John Adams' "Doctor Atomic", as J. Robert Oppenheimer's wife. Through her many performances in a wide repertoire, she has already become recognized as one of today’s most extraordinary concert and opera singers.
